So, I run straight water in my motor in the summer. Yes, distilled water. It froze Monday night. I woke up to a motor that was 100% totally frozen solid.

All that happened is I popped a freeze plug out of #4. I replaced with a temporary expaning one until Saturday when I can pull the turbo and replace it proper. Wow. Luck pwns all.

Yah no joke, i popped 2 about 4 days ago, maybe next time i buy a car already swapped i should change all the fluids.

Does your car run worse with the plug out, cause mine did. i havent put in new ones yet just chillen in the drive way, waiting for me to pull off the exhaust mani.

Got any good tips for puttin those back in, some people recommended i use a sealant with the new plugs. Shouldnt be hard though.

I've had problems with them not sealing if you don't use some sealant on them.

I have read using Permatex Right Stuff. Any other ideas? I am doing this Saturday. Joy.

I also found another casulty: my thermostatic switch for my e-fans died. Good thing it is chilly enough to keep temps in check. I am getting a new one of those tomorrow.

Did I say luck? Pulling the turbo is a PITA. Haha. Oh well. I am letting the threadlocker red set up overnight. Should be good.

That stuff sucks actually. It gums up your cooling system for some reason. I had to flush my engine about 3 months after rebuilding it with a brand new radiator and heater core because it had all kinds of nastiness floating in it. It took me a good 20min to get the system all cleaned out.

Stick with the good ole' green stuff.

Really? Even though I just coated the hole and the lip of the plug? Damn. I read on some hot rod forums (and in an article in PHR) to use red for intial install and green if it leaked. I'll see what happens. Thanks for the heads up Ryan.

No, haha. I said Permatex Threadlocker Red. LOL. I used it as a sealant on the freeze plug with lock it in place. I read that if it leaks, use Threadlocker Green to seal it up. We totally were on different levels. I thought that you were referring to my sealant of choice, and you were talking about the coolant. I bought Peak pre mix. Green FTW!

Oh yeah, I run that orange GM DEXSOMETHING coolant in my CA. I've drained and reused the coolant like 2 times now (don't worry it has barely 3,000 miles on it, I just like taking it apart LOL) and it's nice and fresh looking every time.

This stuff:

Any cause for concern? Cause I'm about to drain the coolant out AGAIN and could switch hahahaah.

AVOID THAT SHUTF LIKE THE PLAUGE!!! From what I hear there is some sort of class action against GM regarding that stuff cuz it eats up the radiator.

My father in law owns a shop and they have done SOOOO many radiator and heater core replacements because of that stuff.

Stick with the good ole' green stuff.

If it's only been in there for a couple of months, you're probably fine, just flush the system really good and re-fill. If it's been years, I'd still flush it really good, but don't be surprised if you have problems later.

It's been in there like 5 months I think. And last time I drained it, like 1.5 months ago, it was crystal clear still, no corrosion or gunk or anything dirtying it up. I'll flush and fill it back up with the green stuff, should be fine.
