I have always heard that doing nothing but make short in town trips is murder on gas mileage, but I never realized exactly how bad this kind of driving is until today. I decided to take advantage of falling gas prices and top off my I30's fuel tank. HOLY S***! It took 5.9 gallons. In the time since I last refueled I've driven 90 MILES according to the trip odometer...none of my trips exceeded 3 or 4 miles between engine shutdowns. 15.something MPG! YUCK! Compare that to the 29.5mpg I got cruising at 80-85mph down here to Williamsburg from Boston. I'm just going to walk for some of the shorter trips now, I can't justify 15mpg for convenience.

I noticed the same thing. It gets even worst when you race from light to light on streets

Haha, I know what you mean. I've always been a throttle-happy driver...lots of WOT and redline. My milage never comes close to what it could be.

And since I got the Magnaflow put on, I've been driving driving with overdrive off (and 2nd gear in town) for that beautiful sound. It's killed my fuel milage.

when you really look at it, the gas milage for this car isn't that bad. Stock as it comes, you look at all the electronics and you see where it adds up. Powered seats, powered windows, ect... all this luxury does have a slight downside. I would think an intake and an fuel saving kit might help somewhat.

Yeah I'm not really that mad about it. It's a big car with a powerful engine. Also it's not like I'm buring a whole tank every week at that gas mileage. 5.9 gallons in 2 weeks I can deal with at about $2.25/gallon for 93 octane fuel. I'm going to be more careful now but it's not like I got clobbered. And heck, I get 30mpg in 85mph highway cruising, which is the majority of my miles since I have to drive between Boston and Williamsburg, VA a couple times a year to go to school and back.

Sure, I could drive a Civic and get better gas mileage, but I'd much rather be driving something that looks like a Mercedes, performs like a BMW, and has the reliability only Japan can provide.

Ever since I started doing performance mods, I have actually noticed an increase in mpg, especially on the highway. I can get almost 30 mpg now and I think stock my car was only rated at like 26. The last two times I drove to Seattle, I was around 28-29 mpg with 17s and my sub and everything in the car.

I can do well in town, too, but I tend to let it warm up a little extra in the morning and take off a little too quickly

I'm throttle happy too, and a 13 mile drive down I-5 and back each day with about 7 miles "in town" I average 21.9mpg. On drives to Saettle and back I'm at 28mpg. But I'm always on the throttle. Gas mileage has gone up 2mpg on average from when I got her.

Yeah in mixed driving I get around 22-23mpg. That's what I got with about 60% in town and 40% highway.
