On my hatch is some old tint(12 years or so) and it is starting to bubble up. I was wondering if I take it off what is the possibility of the defroster wiring coming off as well? That is what I am really worried about. I don't want to really lose my defroster.

It shouldnt lift the defroster lines with it. Just peel it off slowly. Then use a warm soupy water to pull off the residue. Might take you a few tries to the age of the tint. Dont try to scrape it with a razor blade or you'll more than likely lift or cut the defroster. But even that can be repaired. Most auto parts stores sell a repair kit for defroster lines.

Soak the film down w/ ammonia. Then get a steamer and hold it right up against the film at a corner. The film should come loose. Then just slowly work the steamer across the film, waiting for the film to come loose under the steamer before peeling it off. That's how I did mine. If you do screw up one of the defroster lines, Autozone sells a kit to repair it.

I've been thinking of taking it to a place that puts it on. They said they use some solvent to get it off??

I took my tint off myself after it made me fail inspection...

Use a razor blade to get a small peel along the edge then rip it off with your hands. To get the film off I used 409 and a Brillo pad, make sure you get the unscented Brillo pads though, I unknowingly bought Lemon and it left a residue on the windows.

The pad didn't hurt the rear defroster at all. It was pretty hard to get the bottom of the back window though, so there was about 3 inches of film until I got my new tint.

That won't work if it's already bubbling, though. Because those bubbles are from where the tint film has started to seperate from it's lower layer. So the tint will come off, but there will still be a nasty layer of film on the window. The steam works b/c it temporarily bonds the layers back together enough to get them off the window. The brillo pad is a good idea though to get the leftover glue off.
