How do i take off the crank pulley, i have the puller tool but do i take off the bolt first, or do i leave the bolt in. In the FSM it looks like the bolt is in there from the picture. So does anyone know? also can i take the front cover off with the pulley still in?

you have to take the bolt off first. You'll probably need an impact wrench to do it.

Make sure you have RTV for the front cover and install a new front crank seal ($5) while you're at it... Take out those timing chain guides too!

k i got the pulley off, and now i'm trying to get the front cover off, its hard, it moves but it just won't come off. and does the oil pan have to be off? because i'm doing this while the engine is in the car. i also took of the front oil seal, now is there anything else i have to take off by the crank to get it off?

Yes, oil pan must come off assuming you've got a DE.

Loosen the motor mounts a bit, and raise the engine by the transmission with a jack. There's a few bolts holding the oil feed pipe to the oil pan, and those have to be unbolted in order for you to remove the front cover. When you loosen the oil pan, get your hand inside and unbolt it. I had the same problems when I did my timing chain.. It's not an easy task.

or do you think it would just be easier to take out the whole engine and transmission?

I've never taken out an engine before, but if you're comfortable with it, I say go for it. The more you raise the engine, the easier it is to separate the oil pick up line.

Basically its a little metal tube that goes down into your oil pan to get the oil. Your oil pump is bolted to the front cover and that has the little oil pickup line going down into it. I got the oil pan off (well..you take it off but you can't actually remove it) with a very small 10mm socket wrench I got from autozone. When the oil pan drops, there will be 2 12mm bolts a tad bit lower than the edge of the oil pan you have to loose, don't drop em, else you get the fun experience I had of buying a magnet and fishing those suckers out.

No, not 34.

It was in the upper 20's.. I'm pretty sure 27, but it could be 29...
