I took mine to a body shop to have it removed. They cut the rusted metal off and welded in new metal in to cover the wholes. As for replacing things, I guess you should check out the timing chain for rattles but just give her a good tune up for now unless there are obvious things that need attention. Drive the car around (to warm it up), park it and place a poster board under the car to check for leaks (rear main seal, transmission etc.). I'm going to take a wild guess and say your S13 is red....yes?
I've heard people say that the integrity of the hatch won't be the same. It may be true but think it came out pretty good. The holes are virtually gone. The guy sprayed the underside with rust proofer to protect it a bit more aswell.
