I saw a g35 the other day with the logo, infiniti, and g35 all taken off the back of the car. Is there an easy way to do that without ruining the paint or is that custom?

I haven't debadged my G yet, but I did on my last car. I used some hot soapy water and a plastic wedge. Make sure you don't use ANYTHING with sharp edges or metal.

I got flamed for this back in the old G37 forum, but here goes:

I know some of you like to show your “individuality” through your car, but my view is that debadging is similar erasing your car’s identity, sort of like being ashamed of it.

You own a fine car for which you should be proud. In a stretch analogy, debadging would be like if you ever got rich enough to buy the Mona Lisa, and the first thing you did was to erase Da Vinci’s signature because you think the painting looks cleaner without it.

I am one that has debadged or rebadged every car I have owned. It has nothing to do with being ashamed with my car. Part of it, is that carrying the Infiniti emblem, is simply a status symbol. You drive a Nissan with a different body style and leather interior. Plain and simple. In most countries, there isn't such a thing as Infiniti, Acura or Lexus. People know their cars well enough to know that a Nissan Cima (M45) is a much nicer car than a Nissan Sentra, and also know that a Toyota Altezza (IS300) is a much nicer car than a Toyota Corolla. If I want to prove status or wealth, I will show off my Louis Vuitton wallet, or break out my checkbook and not my car.

If I paid for it... well then, guess it's mine to do with as I please. I personally would keep the signature, but would have to give her some eyebrows.

As far as debadging goes, use a hair dryer, and if need be, a little ronsonol lighter fluid. You can go to a body shop supply store, and buy a wheel for a buffer that is made to pull the adhesive off. They are about $20.

I don't think Sean, Joe or Beanor are going to let flaming fly in this forum. I wouldn't want to be the first one to find out either.

We all respect the opinions of each other here, 'cause we're bro's.

You are exactly right. I don't tolerate flaming at all, and have swung the ban stick rather hard on more than one occasion for it.

That also reminds me that I need to unban UNV-IT46 for calling Magellin names in the G37 forum.

Dental floss and some SAFE adhesive remover should be all you need.

We rebadged my wife's Celica. So instead of saying GT it says "Batgirl" (inside joke). The install was almost perfect and from 5-10 ft away you wouldn't know it wasn't factory (except for the word itself).

Right on the money... I used dental floss and a product called 'Goo Gone', and then a good polish and wax to finish. The dental floss broke a couple of times, and doing it again, I think I might use a thin fishing line.

Of course it’s a status symbol. That’s why we’re not driving Altima sedans or coupes. We’ve worked hard, and felt we deserved to step up to an Infiniti. I see nothing wrong with that, and that’s why I fail to understand why anyone would want to debadge their Infiniti.

BTW, over on the Lexus side there are holes beneath those badges which discourages most owners from attempting it, not that some have not taken the trouble, i.e., filling in the holes.

I come from a different school where I was involved with restoring old cars. Some owners have looked for years for lost badges to bring their car back to stock condition, a requirement for most judging scores at events. In that regard, if you must debadge, please save them somewhere in the car so a future owner who may be a collector can put them back.

I am a pack rat as far as car parts are concerned. I still have them, and won't throw them out. Our cars are too common and mass produced as well as not being long withstanding like the old American beauties. Not too much worry about it making it to a collection anyways. As soon as the factory warranty on the engine expires, I will be adding either a supercharger or twin turbos.

Yes, I work really hard to be able to afford this car. I own my 40% of my home (40% paid off) and have only had it two years. I have my car, and my wife's new Jeep Wrangler. No, I wasn't being cheap, that is her dream car. I have a very nice retirement plan (401k) and make a very comfortable wage. I have done all of this without a formal education. Yes, I dropped out of high school, and don't posses a GED. A GED simply states you have the education of a 5th grader. So I feel that I have earned the right to drive whatever car I want, and call it what I like.

There are plenty of Lexus IS300's that have been re-badged to a Toyota Altezza. Remember those tiny holes, well since it's the same car just a difference between JDM and USDM, the badging of Altezza fits right into those holes.

Also an Altima coupe isn't much cheaper. A new Altima coupe with mid range features is about $32,500 ($613/mo). A G37 with the same features is about $36,500 ($688/mo). That means that your "status" that you are trying to prove shows that you can afford about $75. a month more. That figure was taken from those amounts over a 60 month term, 5% interest and 0 down.

I have a feeling that the difference in ages and different generations, we will never come to an agreement on this. You have lived through many changes, and were born during the "Great Depression" and have lived through a World War. I have not. I was born 6 months after the Vietnam War ended. There haven't been that many world wide changes in my life. Communism ended in the USSR, and it became separate states. Israel and Palestine now have a wall. The Berlin wall came down, as did the Twin Towers. Now there is the war in Iraq. Those are some of the biggest changes I have seen. We just have different views on life, status and cars.

As a designer, I see a horrible trend, but also a monumentus change in the right direction...

For years, we've been conditioned into accepting things for what they are and leaving them that way. Clothes, car colors, anything and everything around us.

Now I see the masses attempting to express their individuality and with that comes amazing creativity...It also brings 100s of terabytes worth of absolute CRAP...AND sore eyes when you see other's cars and clothes and other "personalized CRAP" that idiots have put together.

Being different because you have a passion and a gift is great. Being different just to be different when your skills and talents earned you that GED means you should let the rest of us do the creating and you do the buying!!!

I won't get all deep as to why I did it on my G. I just liked the cleaner look of it; plain and simple.

For me, I took off everything except for Fuji... and then later on dropped/centered Fuji on the trunk lid.

Blow dryer, floss, and a **** ton of time to carefully clean off the adhesive.

Here's how I documented this project -http://www.geocities.com/kevin...badge

Hair dryer and fishing line. Goo gone for the left-over glue after the letters are off.
