Taking off from stop in 2nd gear?

I've noticed a few times on these forums people talk about starting from 2nd/3rd gear from a stop, and that they just leave it in the gear when cruising around... Mainly I've noticed this with Q45/M45 owners.

I'm wondering if this applies to J30s at all, people claim it extends tranny life when they post about it?

Any info would be great, thanks!

No J30 has 1st gear start.

Haha, shows how much I know about AT - never owned one before this J!

So when is 1st used, if not from a stop?

What gears equal roughly what speed?

1st - 41-43mph2nd - 71-76mph3rd - 110-116mph

Thats wide open throttle.

I noticed a little over 100, that it shifts, thats pretty cool haha!
