Anyone know if taking off the catalatic converters would improve performance on the 91 Q?

In California? You must want a big time ticket. There are previous posts on the catalytic and pre-catalytic converters.

In a nutshell, they are very free flowing, and the ECU is tuned to the whole exhaust system.

I will throw in my agreement with this. On my last car, a 92 miata, I removed the converter and got 5 more miles to the gallon, and a little more power, and on the J30, I felt no difference in power or gas mileage. Nissan really put thought into the exaust. It is not worth the trouble.
