Taking a Leap of Faith, Stillen Exhaust

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I posted a question a couple of days ago (greddy-se-exhaust-fit-an-ex35-t548686.html, and with no help available, I decided to just go for it. Instead of getting the Greddy Exhaust, I decided to purchase the Stillen cat back for an 08 G37 Coupe. Listened to a few sound clips online, and I actually like the Stillen better than the Greddy. Not looking for anything too loud, just a performance gain.

Here is a schematic of both exhaust systems to show why I made the leap of faith

Exhaust should be here next week.....

I don't know if you realize this but Stillen exhaust products are well known for oxidizing/rusting badly and not offering the said warranty claims.
FWIW, I visit another Nissan user group where multiple people have been having issues with Stillen's poor exhaust product quality.

Thanks for the tip. I decided to order the Invidia Catback. They seem to have good reviews and a decent sound. (Plus it costs less)

Deciding to go with the Invidia was a mistake. Invidia exhausts for the G37 Coupe will not fit the AWD EX35 or AWD G37. The gearbox is different on the AWD models, and Invidia has decided not to make a different Y-Pipe off the cats. I am in luck because it's only the passenger side that doesn't fit. I'll explain below.

After speaking with the company that I purchased the exhaust from, they advised that the Stillen version would have worked. They say you should also go with your first answer, but I never listen. The company also admitted it was their mistake in advising that the Invidia Exhaust would fit the AWD G37. We agreed that if I call a local muffler shop, the company I purchased the exhaust from would credit the amount it would cost to have the existing pipe modified. If it's even possible. So I called a local company that specializes in custom stainless steel exhausts, and I am meeting with him on Monday to see if he can help. He's been in business since 1987, and I've heard he can do almost anything.

Some of you might say to just return the Invidia, and not go through the hassle of one custom pipe, but the company will also install the rest of the exhaust if he can modify the bad pipe. I've already spent a day unbolting the old one, then having to put it all together again. I just don't feel like crawling under the car and take a chance that a different exhaust doesn't fit due to something else going wrong.

I will say, I've done a dry fit on the rest of the exhaust, and it seems like everything else would have fit. However, it's hard to say for sure since I wasn't actually bolting everything together.

I'll keep you guys posted after my meeting on Monday.

What a hassle! Good luck with the appointment tomorrow. What shop are you taking it to?

After spending a few hours in the muffler shop, the exhaust is finally on the EX. It looks great, but.....sounds a little too loud inside the vehicle for my taste.

For any of you that are looking to retro fit a G37 AWD Coupe Cat Back exhaust, it just won't fit with out modification. Believe it or not, the G37 Coupe Exhaust is actually longer than the EX35's. However, the only section that didn't match was from the Cats to the X pipe(atleast on the invidia). It was about 2.5 inches longer. Other cat backs could be different, but all other sections fit perfectly.

The additional work cost $350, but that is only because I had him install the rest of the exhaust while it was on the lift. Otherwise, he would have only charged me $200 for pipe modifications. I'm not going to complain because the company I purchased from is going to credit me the $350.

I'll post additional pictures this weekend when I have the car on jack stands to install the BC racing coilover kit.

P.S. I'm going to remove the trailer hitch if I can find the original hardware. In order to install the hitch, you have to remove the tow loop, and original hangers. The trailer now acts as the support for the exhaust.

I'm thinking of getting the magnaflow system for the g37 coupe, as I have always been a fan of their exhausts. Wondering what kind of project it will be.

Sorry for the late reply. Based on magnaflows picture, it shouldn't be that much work. The Invidia exhaust fit perfect from the Exhaust to the X pipe, but was about 3-4 inches too long once I tried to attach the X piping. Looks like you might be able to cut that piece down without any additional welding since the they use Clamps instead of Flanges to connect the two pieces. I can't weld, so I couldn't reattach the Flanges after the pipe was cut. My suggestion would be to go for it, and start your install from the exhaust back.

Good Luck!

Yep, I'm leaning that way. Haven't had the car a week yet, so it's a little ways off. I have a saws all and welder, so I'll make it work.
