I'm a VERY picky...or rather...anal retentive car owner. Especially with my G.In the summer I hand washed it every week with a top off wax every other week.

Being that it's winter up here in the Great White North, and cold as hell, I don't have the opportunity to hand detail it.I took it to a wash station a few weeks back, the kind where you use the power washer with different cycles, wash, rinse, wax, etc.Worked out great.

This morning I was going to take it through the Sunoco "Eco Wash", but didn't...just not sure if I should subject it to a wash like that even if it's touchless...

Anyone here use the Sunoco one? What do you guys up in the frozen territories usually do for your G in the winter?

With the drought in Georgia, I've been taking mine to a touchless wash too. As long as you don't have to go through a wheel track that might damage your rims, you'll be fine. It will not get as clean, even if you splurge and get the $7 wash though. Just make sure its touchless!!!!!

I do that all year around. I only take it to the touchless or the DIY carwash.

I've also read that with the clear bras, you shouldn't take it to any car wash that uses mild acids in their soaps (to help remove dirt) as it will affect the bra...

one of the project car magizeens had an article about washing your car. They said avoid the hands free car washers. They are sometimes a little too rough on the paint job, giving tiny scratches in the clear coat, those annoying swirls. If you are using the car wash, use the one where you wash the car your self.

Now i know nissann uses the self repairing paint, i'm not totaly sure it is used in the infiniti modles though logic would dictate that they would apply that to their luxary brand. So the paint is working on your side.

Personaly i hate washing my car lol. I probly have the dirtiest g35 ever. Externaly, inside i'm clean. I have to get my lazy *** to the car wash and hose off that annoying snow salt on the side....

You know what, I'm embarrassed to admit that I have. It is a newer car wash, with new equipment. When the car is washed they don't dry it off with rags, they use air hoses. They clean the inside of all the windows (which I hate doing) and the wheels. It costs $11.95 plus a $2.00 tip. I've been doing it for a year and a half and I never noticed problems on my ex-Maxima or my G. I think the secret is that they don't use dirty, gritty rags to wipe the cars with.

I'm in the Ottawa area and to be honest, I use the touchless wash on my G. The reason....it's better to wash most of the corrosive salt off the car than not to at all. Plus, most touchless wash places have the undercarriage spray that'll wash your wheels and side panels (although I've heard rumours that they use recycled water for that feature.)

Remember, that if you don't wash your car in the winter, the salt coating on it poses another problem: everytime someone "brushes by your car" and they get salt on their clothes (jackets) they also inadvertently scratch your paint because the dried salt is actually minute particles of 'rock."

Moral of the story, touchless wash at least once a week to get that nast coating of salt and grime off your car!!!!!!

In the spring and summer though, it's "wash-by-hand!!"

Not too worried about it. I have some nice sized scratches on my paint. From the past owner. So i'm just going to have to get a new paint job. Not to mention i have a nice ding in my side that has a rust spot. Looks like it got shot with a BB. Also my hood has a dent from where my friend's dad backed into it with a Silverado truck. So i'm driving around with no grill. Waiting for my new one to come in the mail. Blah....I shoulden't own a luxary car.

I have a friend who owns a 2001 Subaru Impreza. Nice little car, but the paint is HORRIBLE.Every week there is a new rust spot somewhere, and now his clear coat is peeling off his hood.He is so meticulous with his car and the paint issues are killing him. Doesn't help that I make a point of pointing out the rust spots whenever I see him

I've made sure to use the wash bay to get off my salt and road grit, but the only problem in the winter with that is no drying hose and to hand dry it is suicide in -20 weather!

The only way I will wash my G is by hand at home or doing it myself at a car wash. Im to anal to have someone else do it.. I like it a certain way. In the winter I usually do it at home.. carrying buckets of water outside because the water is cut off because of how cold it gets here.

Nice

Back to the thread I don't have a clear bra on my car so I am good to go. But even that I would not worry much about it. Still better then the salty crap on the car. I usually clean the car once a week but I wasn't brave enought this week .It was way to chilly. I think I'll go today and get her cleaned.

It looks like I was in the warzone.

I'll post quickly and let you get back to your brokenback mountain thread...

I have never used a car wash other than the DIY variety.Normally, I hand wash at home, but with this drought, I take a bucket of warm Zaino soapie suds to the DIY car wash and only use the RINSE. I wet it down, and then scrub it as fast as I can before it dries and then rinse it off. I try to get there early before the sun gets up so that the car is in the shade. Don't know what I would do if it were extremely cold here like it is other places........perhaps move???

Hey - where in Oakville are you? We lived there for 8 years (moved north of the GTA last year) so i got to know which car washes to visit and which ones not to. I used to take my Alty SE-R to the Esso at Speers and Third line as well as the DIY at the same intersection. If I really wanted it sparkling clean with some minor detailing, I would take it to High Class Car Wash on Speers in between Third and Fourth Line (cost $25 per wash though). As for my G sedan I have taken it through several touchless places...some of them have the water pressure set so strong it causes my sunroof to leak and all of them seem to miss the middle of my rear bumper and the grooves between the centre of the hood and the fenders.

I make too much to leave this place.

Also I do love 4 season and snow. I learned to enjoy it.

At least we don't have bugs now and tree sap.

if your car is lowered you want to avoid the gas station drive through car washes for sure....I have posted this before but don't know what it's under now....short story is my back wheels rolled over the wheel stop on my way out and the wheel stop caught my exhaust canister (stillen). it took me about 5 minutes to get out of there because it was stuck. messed up my whole exhaust. enden up having to buy a whole new one.

Took it through it today. Washed up nicely considering how cold it was this morning.

Yikes on the caught-up exhaust!!!
