I recently aquired a '93 240. I haven't been exposed to this world and have been doing a lot of research, which brings me to ask this question which I am sure will bring me much ridicule. What is a "ricer"?

Usually considered any import automobile with mods and may be associated with racing.

More often than not Hondas and Nissans

JDM = Japanese Domestic Market

that is what I assumed, but, It seems like that is what this forum is mostly about and the term ricer is used in a derogatory manner.

am I wrong?

Ricer is most commonly used to describe folks that are into the image more than the performance.

Someone who put neons on his car instead of a new antisway bar would be considered a ricer by many.

Fred..

Welcome.

Ricers are the guys with near stock cars, no performance (or very few) and big ole bodykits and wings, with lots of non-functional, purely cosmetic addons.

Well said.

Welcome aboard squire. Whether you're a ricer or a racer or a subtle mix of both, as long as you're true to yourself you're alright with me.

I use the term for both the car and a driver. For example "rice boy". You might hear one of them say "Yo dude, my cars neon is the tits" or showing off their brilliant knowledge about cars. "Yeah I dropped in some high compression pistons in my rotory"

Cars with an aftermarket whale tail = riceBodykits almost always = riceneon = riceChrome wheels = ricebig exhaust tip being the only performance mod = riceSwapping in an SR or CA because you wanted forced induction over your normally aspirated KA = not riceAdding whiteline suspention products, bigger wheels and lower profile tires for added performance = not rice.

Basically anything that is functional is not ricey, anything that is all show and no go is ricey. Adding a ton of rice to a car makes it riced out. Now i'm not biased on imports vs domestics. I have seen some riced out mustangs before.

if your wheel size matches your quarter mile time, you might be a ricer.
