I was wondering what could be the problem, my check engine light was on for EGR temperature sensor and Knock Sensor. I managed to replace the knock sensor today. The job took about 2 hours due to lack of correct tools for the job. I now have the same problem which is I still have a loss of power at around 4500RPM's, the car does not rev as hard as it does at lower RPM's. Can the EGR temperature sensor affect anything to due with performance?. What can be the problem with loss of huge amounts of power at HIGHER RPM'S.

This is a S14 motor, my old motor S13 was much faster, reved faster, and overall outperformanced this car in all categories dealing with the engine. It must be some sort of problem, I now get smoked by VV Jetta 2.0, now thats not possible is it?

My knock sensor went on today again, I will go to the junkyard and get another one.

I have tein coilovers, handle great, and a set of rims, I pisses me off is 3 Knock Sensors i got off the yunkyard and all of them broken , either one cracked, or it just doesnt work, what might I be duing wrong, im starting to have some wounds on my hands from reaching in the car to the sensor

No I did not, now I' am experiencing transmission problems, I can no longer fast shift because it wont go in gear and starts grinding, then when im on hills or angles the transmission wont let me shift in any gear, but reverse, once i reverse a foot or two then It will. Another thing that shows up with the grinding is i put mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid, is that wrong?

75w90 mobile 1 synthetic gear oil, yes it is the gear oil, I cant seem to find whats the problem with the transmission, what can be wrong for it to be grinding like thatNow experiencing another problem my car wont start unless i give it some gas, and it takes awhile before it does too, but runs smoothly, my RPM gauge shut off on me, my rpms no longer show, can this problem be related to the transmission?

Heh... The fact that the intake runners are 21 inches long, and if you have an s13, the intake manifold also has secondary butterfly valves. It's not a problem per se, the engine torque falls off after 4500, and the horsepower drops like a rock after the peak (5600).

It's possible if you're a bad driver, I guess. Also, comparing your two engines with a butt dyno doesn't sound like a very accurate gauging of things to me. I doubt your EGR temp sensor would cause any massive problems, as I disconnected my EGR valve and my car runs fine. Have you done simple things like checked your fuel filter, fuel pressure, air filter and timing?

When the knock sensor is throwing a code, it dumps more fuel into the chamber and retards the timing. Robbing you of precious horsepower.

Fix for the s14 not reving as hard is a set of s13 cams.I put 2 intake cams from 2 different 92 model year engines in my wifes 98. I didn't think it would make that big of a difference, but its quite a bit nicer. Louder at full throttle too.

Im pretty sure the s14 is heavier too. Stock suspension doesn't feel as good, but a set of spl parts coil overs fixed that for us.

Did you disconnect the battery to clear the code after replacing the sensor?

Um... did you put in transmission fluid, or 75w90 synthetic gear oil? If you put in transmission fluid, then that's definitely your problem.

Also, if you don't clear the code, it's still going to be there even if your knock sensor is working properly.

Did u get GL-4 fluid? Other ones, like GL-5 will destroy your synchros. That could be the cause of your grinding problems.

I will get GL-5 then, what happens when synchros are destoryed?

no no no. you want GL-4, NOT GL-5. if your synchros wear out it will grind when you try to put it in gear

meaning i need a new transmission or just new lubrication i think my syncros are worn due to the non stop grinding

They are probobly destroyed. You could tear apart the transmission and replace them or get a new transmission

How much do you think a transmission can cost at the junkyard?

I got an engine and transmission for $200 from a guy that swapped in a SR.... but once again I have a '90... but I'd say that for under $200 you should be able to pick up a pretty good transmission... (as an FYI a shop will charge near $1k to rebuild a transmission... not that it isn't worth it though...) and I also wouldn't undertake rebuilding it yourself as you can encounter some difficult issues when replacing things...
