@tjm, How would you fix that? The guard removal fixed the ticking sound but now I have a tapping sound from the top of my engine...

Also I just took the piece of the guard out that broke off, and I wanted to know if those bolts that held the whole piece on served any purpose and if I should just go ahead and take the base and bolts out.

Take all of it off, and the bolts. They don't serve any other purpose. And check your oil for shavings immediately. Just drain it into an extremely clean container, and if you don't find anything, then just reuse it and it won't even cost you anything. Better to be safe than to spin a bearing and be walking home in that cold *** weather

your chain is probly still hitting lightly. Take it all out.

ok thanks, Ill check the oil over Christmas break that way I can make it to my friends house, he has a heated garage and there Ill take the rest out.
