Has anyone had problems with tailgate latches on 1st-gen Rogues?

In March 2013 the dealer replaced the latch assembly on my '10 Rogue under warranty. It generally still worked as a latch, except occasionally the door would need a harder slam to close, and the inbuilt sensor switch that triggers both the trunk light and dashboard 'door open' indicator only worked some of the time. A new latch fixed the problem, until a few days ago when I opened the tailgate and noticed the trunk light was again not working.

So I took the car in today to the friendly dealer. They determined that yet another latch is needed - it has been ordered and will be fitted f-o-c despite the car being well outside of warranty. Kudos to the dealer. But two latches going bad so far? In a car with less than 75,000km? Something's not right.

As an aside - maybe not an aside at all - I sometimes see a little puddle of water sitting in the small 'well' that surrounds the striker for the latch. It's very minor and I had assumed the water was getting past the door seal - too small to worry about. Now I'm theorizing that somehow I have water leaking inside the tailgate and trickling through the latch assembly, gradually causing it to gum up or corrode over time.

Would welcome any thoughts or suggestions!

Sounds like you've got a decent dealership to work with. :bigthumb:
Just out of curiosity, what condition is the rubber seal around the hatch in?
