so i called the local junkyards right.

and the taillights for my 1980 datsun pickup are rare, and they want $50 a pop.

do you think i can make brackets and plates and make my own tail lights using boat/trailer lights and actually make it look good?

i think i can, the problem is will it surpass the $100 for 2 tail light mark?

has anybody done something like this or is there any sites that sell the tail lighsts? my housings are pretty f***ed up, and the lenses are cracked, and broken. wireing is still good, but the bulbs are rusted into place.

help?

Replace them with the stock ones whenever possible, unless it is a farm truck. You will pay more than $100 if you try any where other than a junk yard. I will ask around, I know a few people who have more than one 720. Do you need the Datsun or the Nissan lights, (On the bed or under the bed)?

Now that I reread your post you will need them for under the bed.

You can fix the rust if you can get the bulbs out, with a small wire brush, and some of the goop that helps electrical connections. (usually about $1 for a pack)

the ones that are under the bed, the kind that always get smashed out by the stock bumper.

for now i just might use some fix it tape and glue to make ti legal. but it dont want ghetto tail lights. lol.

I also have a tube bumper I am not going to use, made by jackman, it is a double tube design, seen on alot of Toyota pick ups.

Some WD40 will help to get the lights out. It may cost more than the 100 dollar mark to refab using the trailer lights. BTW it does not look as good as the original.

You have to be careful when ordering the nissan version lights. Remember the 83 onwards use two different style of lights. The red and white wont work on your 80 because the red acts as stop and turn whilst your set up is individual. The number of wires coming into the tail light also differs, so the best option is to get one from the junkyard.

Could you get the lenses only bracktheron? jdamion I cant tell you where to find the lenses but I changed both of mine for 15 bucks and that includes the sealant. I got mine from the local nissan dealer here in the Caribbean.
