both are easily removable without damage to the tails

both relatively inexpensive

I am personally having my overlays installed professionally, I would rather spend a few bucks having it done the right way than having to order a whole nother set. Even if they are discounted bat

The paint is a much more realistic DIY job I think.

I am using overlays because i want consistancy. I am afraid if i paint it I may get unevenness (wow i cant believe that a real word lol) in the shading/layering of the paint. I also like the finish of the overlays.

just my .02, both very viable options, and with overlays you even have your choice of vendors =P

Bat or LBC =P

I prefer the paint. It is easy if you take your time and cheep. But since you live in california, make sure what ever you get leaves some red exposed. ex: red circle over the brake light. My lights are blacked out with paint and I allready got a ticket because I don't have any red exposed to reflect headlights. There is a write up in the DIY section I did.

I painted mine black and got a ticket for it, but it was written off just on the fact of visibility, they didnt say anything about having to be reflective.

anyways, I painted mine because i didnt want to pay someone to install overlays, and i ripped one myself trying to install the overlays.however the problem with paint is that you have to be very patient or else you will rush and the paint won't be even (headlight paint isnt even at all)

First, it isnt just regular paint, it is tinting paint. Pretty much black paint with alot of clear coat mixed in. You can make the lights as dark as you want.

I also got a ticket for mine and got pulled over by another cop (originally for no license plate, and window tint) but after my lights shut off he noticed the tail lights. He let me off with a warning but he said the only problem was there wasnt any red to reflect headlights. Think of it this way. Alot of new cars come with blacked out tail lights, but they all haft to have those little red reflectors mounted some where on the back. He said if I was driving with my lights off, he wouldnt of seen my car.

So my recommendation would be leave the brake light circle red. or do gtr overlays.
