Hi all,

I bought my pickup about 6 years ago and fixed it up, it ran fine and everything seemed to be working fine. I sold it 2 years ago then bought it back last year. When I got it back it was/is now running the tail lights on even if the truck is off, the only way I can shut them off is to disconnect the battery. The guy that had it will not admit he did 'something' to my truck, but I did find fuses in the glove box that he had bought. So my question is, how do I figure out what he did and fix it?
I can only do the work myself as I am short on money.

Thanks

Tail lights or brake lights?  If it's brake lights it's likely just a bad brake light switch.

Looks like the brake lights. I looked underneath the break arm and there is a round piece of plastic that is broken, it fell off. So do I just get something else to put in its place as a pad or do I need another switch? If so where do I get one?

Just to test it, you can tape a coin over the hole for the switch to be pressed in by.

Same ailment that occasionally plagues the Z cars.  We just get a small carriage bolt/nut and washer, put it in place of the stopper with the round end against the brake light switch and adjust it.  Works fine.  My Z has been like that for 10 years at least.

the brake light switch on my beater 521 was missing the bump stop so instead of a penny someone put the head of a big nail in its place. maybe i should get around to fixing that.

was that your problem? did you get it fixed?
