Tail lights led question

Ok well for some reason my tail lights are not that bright. When im reversing i can barely tell my rear lights are on. So i figured i would just get the led lights bulbs. My question is with what kind of lights would it be brighter? Of course i know the white light with the reverse lights. But i was reading somewhere that since the lens was red i should get red led bulbs that it would be brighter than getting white ones? can anyone help me
