My tail lights and gauge cluster lights keep going out. Problem is that a fuse keeps blowing... I keep having to replace the fuse.. and just one night, my luck gave me a fix it ticket.

HELP!!!The circuit must be grounded somewhere to be overloading right?I'm looking at my Chilton Factory Manual on page 6-54.Diagram 16 indicates that the tail lights are directly in circuit with the key ignition position.

It goes from there, to the tail light bulbs which are grounded in between then return back to the 'parking light system'"parking light system"?

I know where to put one prong of the Ohm meter but the other one goes to where the tail lights return to the parking light system... which is?

Thanks in advance

one lead goes in the connector the other goes to the body of the car. when your meter goes from I to 0.00 thats your bad wire. once you have the shorted wire. leave your ohm meter rigged up so you can see it. start pulling bulbs in the tail lights. if it is still shorted start locating connectors in the circuit and start disconnecting them while watching your meter. once it goes back to I you have isolated it to the failing circuit. now move your meter to there and do it all over again. if you have come to the point where there is nothing else to disconnect you now need to trace that wire through the car till you visually see where it is shorting out. keep in mind though as long as the loads are still in the circuit you may see a high resistance instead of I but that is ok. its if it is low that you need to be concerned with.

I had the same problem, turned out to be one of the tail/brake light bulbs (The ones with two elements 1157?) one of the elements was broke loose on one side and it would flop around and blow fuses. It would vary how long it would take to blow the fuse from a month to 10 minutes. It was actually doing it so much that it would melt the fuse.. Pain in the ***. changed the bulb and so far *knock on wood* it hasnt happened again.

I have the exact same problem, only it hasnt happened to me in like 2 months (knock on wood)hehe. But before it happened about 5 times it seems like, then it just quit. If it happens again Im going to check the bulb like dragon. Let us know what you find 7HE_Don, could be quite helpfull if it turns out to not be my bulb.
