I was driving a few days ago and when I hit my brake, the indicator light on the dash came on - looked up its meaning and says a brake light is out...I looked and it doesn't look like one is out, first it would only come on when I hit the brake, now its solid...is the third brake light also a running light? Thats the only thing I can think of...

Yes, a bad bulb or connection in the third brake light will trigger the dash light.

^^^ Yep. The reason the light on the dash comes on is that the ECU is getting a reading from the taillights that is not in spec, which usually results from a burnt out bulb or a bad connection.

turn on your running lights, and if it comes on then its one of the lower two lights, if it still isn't on with the running lights turned on and only comes on when you brake, then its the center light.

Well I know for a fact w/o even going outside that its the third break light, cuz it only comes on when I hit the brake...is this an easy fix, what size light does it take if anyone knows? Thanks for the prior answers, this forum is a great help so far and I've only had the car for 2 weeks. Thanks a lot guys.

The third brake light should only come on when you hit the brakes.....

Oh okay, I misunderstood...well, it comes on only when i brake for a few minutes, then it stays on...but no lights are out and the third brake light works fine too...all the signals work fine, the running lights are on, even the license plate...maybe just a malfunction then? Should I try disconnecting the batt. or something for a few minutes...
