I only had my Maxima for a few short weeks before I discovered a lovely crack in my passenger side tail light. Looked like a shopping cart was slammed in to it.

Anyhow, I knew the dealer wasn't going to be kind with their quote and I was right. They wanted $525 for parts and labor. So I decided to order the part from a Nissan dealership on Amazon for less than $200 and take on the task myself.

Took me a while to figure it out, but after all was said and done, I was able to get it done.

The only odd thing I noticed is that the very top of the assembly (closest to the rear door), is sort of loose. It's not bulging out and it appears flush just like the driver side, but you can clearly feel some give and can pull it back about a centimeter with your fingernail. Can't do this on the driver's side.

I double and triple checked to make sure everything was installed properly and as far as I could tell it was.

So long story short, I brought it to the dealer to ask one of the techs for their opinion and he felt it was fine and maybe just an aftermarket thing.

I'm just wondering if any of you have had this experience and can reassure me that it's normal and won't be a problem down the road. There's no gasket, so I doubt water will be an issue. I'm just a bit OCD with most things so I want to be sure it's not something I did wrong and need to do anything to make it right and perfect.

Thanks for reading and any feedback anyone provides in advance.

-Cheers

just shootng from the hip here but 1 cm of movement here probably won't hurt
I have replaced some lenses/lights so you are probably ok
I have found when working on the Maxima to read a lot about the repair first
Some clear silicone from home depot might ensure the water stays out if you can neatly squeeze it in there
When you buy anything other than OEM you are taking a chance it won't be "perfect"
Note the 1 cm variance on the body is less important than differences elsewhere, like brakes!
