tachometer swap

i have a 89 and i put a dohc in it. the tach doesnt work from the 89. i read that i have to get one from a 91-94 for it to work. i was wondering if the tach from a 180sx or silvia cluster will work with the dohc. anybody know?

I KNOW one from a Silvia equpped with an SR20DE (t or not) will work.I'm PRETTY sure the gauge cluster from a CA18DE (t) will work but I'm not 100% sure... hopeully someone else will give a concrete response on that

(the CA18 would have been in most of the 180sx's but in later ones, some had an SR20 I believe)

i swapped in the engine harness and the ecu from the 92. I cut the plug that goes into the dash harness off the dohc and sohc engine harnesses. i then put on the plug from the sohc harness onto the dohc harness by matching the wires, color to color. That is what i came up with when i searched for sohc to dohc swap info. it said you have to use the tach from an s13 with a ka24de (the one that redlines at aprox. 7k, instead of like 6.2k).

i was thinking about getting a gauge cluster from a 180sx or silvia if the tach will work. this is what i want to know. if it doesnt ill just get one from a 91-94 240sx.
