question for some of the more nuts/bolts/wires technical guys out there.

i have a 1996 s14 se. i'm replacing my tachometer gauge from the gauge cluster. *did a diagnostic per the service manual to determine if the gauge is faulty, which it is.*

i priced a replacement up at the local dealer and they're asking $430.31. i also checked out http://www.nissanparts.org and they list the tachometer for $285.98. nice discount btw.

anyway, my question is; do i have no other choice than to shell out the $285...or is there something within the tachometer assembly that goes out that can be fixed. i think that's an outrageous price for a tachometer. i'm just trying to save some $$$ (just like you guys right?).

thanks for any help!

I will be getting a gauge cluster to replace my current speedo so I will have an extra tach soon. I will sell that to you when I get the set.
