Hello all, I have yet another problem. I have s13 240 with s13 redtop sr20det. My tachometer is not working. I have swapped to the dohc gauge cluster. I traced the tach signal wire(yellow with red stripe)from the ecu thru the wiring harness and am getting no power. The wire ends at a single flat-bladed wire connector with a cap on it(kinda cylindrical looking). Is this where the wire is supposed to end? Anyhow, I would appreciate some kind soul(s) giving me some insight so I can fix this, as I didnt want to go with an aftermarket tach just yet. Thanks folks

Post a picture. The Yellow/Red from the ECU should go to the Dash Harness which runs to another set of harness's for the Gauge Cluster.

The cylindrical piece that you are talking about is a diagnostic connector used by a dealership to check the rpm signal, or so I've read on hear anyway.

ok now this is what you have to do, take the tach(doch) out of the doch cluster, make sure you pull out the screws(doch) out of the cluster as well as they are really important for the tach to work.... now trim the tach to fit your cluster and install the doch tach using the screws from the doch cluster, and this should do it... i hope i explained it clearly, im in rush now but if you need more info just hit me up

ok, so basically what you are saying is: swap the tach from the dohc engine into the gauge cluster from my sohc engine? even still, how does this affect my not having any power from the ecu to the harness? im lost...

the three screws behind the tach on the doch cluster act like some sort of a resistor.... if you have already swaped the doch tach into your soch gauge cluster then just swap those three doch screws on and that should take care of it..... wow i remember when i had to go through this(back in the days)

hey people, im bumping this. im still needing some help here. i tried the above suggestions to no avail, and i am still not getting any power from the ecu to tach wire. is there any kind of way to circumvent this and get this working or a way to install an aftermarket tach and get that working? thanks again

make sure the connector for the dash is fully connected its above the ecu. Everything on the cluster would work except the tach. I got a 89 hb with a 93 dohc. Everything works fine. Make sure u wire the red/yellow wire to the ecu correctly.

did you check continuity from the cluster wire to the dash plug and then from the dash plug to the sensor... You're looking for continuity not power.
