tachometer problem...

i don't know if this is a repost but my tachometer on my 91' coupe isn't working, but the weird thing is the speedometer is. I've changed the fuses clusters and sub harnesses. So what could it be? if anyone out there has had the same problem please help.

when you say you changed the cluster, did you put in a whole new unit or just replace the "box" part and transfer the electronic guts? It sounds like a dead tach to me, but you might have tried a new one already. I would start looking at the transmission, where the sensor pickups are and making sure the wiring and mechanical parts are in good order. Other people who have done this can probably give you a good idea of whats involved. My problems were fixed replacing the entire gauge cluster, so I can't help ya much past that other than in theory.
