I may be wrong, but wouldn't the light wire just wire directly to a 12v source?

What model of tach is this, so u just need the illumination figured out?
Tach should have power, ground, signal, and illumination.

Are these the colors you have and their functions, correct.
Black-chassis ground
Red-battery 12v
Green-ignition/distributor signal (-)
White-illuminate dimmer side of circuit 12v

If so, you can do this 2 ways, have tach illuminate all the time by tapping into ignition switch whenever you put your ignition switch in "ON" position it will illuminate and stay on till you turn off ignition.
Or tap into something like ashtray or head unit(radio)/hazard switch. Its ether R/Y (red/yellow) or R/L (red/blue), but Im not sure without testing. Looking at the wiring diagram seems like R/L is the wire you want, because its the only one going to ashtray and theres chassis ground.

But test first before you do any cutting or splicing.

*******key has to be in ON position and parking lights must be ON for those 2 wires to work.*************

Let me know how it goes. :inoutgay:

Is there something wrong with the factory tachometer? I feel that this is the most important question

I would go to a call a local junkyard and look for a 240sx/hatch

and i would not install a huge ugly tach, unless you are building a custom cluster.
