Picked up a used tachometer from the junkyard today from another 720. Everything looks ok with it. Installed it tonight and found the required wiring on the wire harness behind the cluster. However when it was all placed back in, and took it for a test drive, nothing happened.

Any ideas? I'm gonna check the wiring tomorrow, but is there anything else I need to do, was thinking it might just be plug n play.

so long as the wiring is right... it should be plug & play for sure

If the wiring is right, then the tach is the problem.

Did u get the tach resistor? It looks like a black plug usually by the coils. The plug looks like this -I. I have a couple extras. Sorry for the late info, but I do not think it will work without the resistor.

I checked all around the coils and didn't find a plug in that resembled that. You got a picture?

I'm currently having the same issue as you 86 720. Picked up a tach. out of a junked king cab as well as an oil pressure gauge and volt meter. I can't seem to find the plugs for the latter two, and the tach won't work at all. Kind of stumped.

I went out to harbor freight and picked up one of the tachometers that they sell their and it works and was super simple to put in with the exception of the directions telling you to put a wire on the negative side of the coil. it was a pretty good price to like 24 dollars or something like that.
