My tachometer either literally SLEEPS at 0, even while driving, or it will randomly jump around everywhere. I posted a video so you can see what the problem is. Sorry about the music, ignore that part, just notice the tachometer going haywire.

Do you guys know what causes this problem? I'm thinking maybe to remove the instrument cluster to check the connection, but I don't want to waste the effort if there's some sort of electronic sensor that I don't know about that may be malfunctioning.

Historically [during warranty] it was very common [on 90,91,92 Q] to replace speedometer assembly for the exact same problem. Later the tach assembly started to fail after 10 years.

Both these gauges are just d'Arsonval voltmeters that measure 0>5 volts supplied by ecu or speedometer IC.

Buy an entire low mileage gauge cluster for a 90-93 you will need the parts when other sections fail.

So you're saying I should just pick and choose parts off the replacement tach/cluster, and use those parts to replace the bad ones in my current tach/cluster? If so, I'm just going to have to pass.

Gas prices are forcing me to sell my Q and step down into a 4 banger. Gas here in Los Angeles is hitting $4.89 for premium fuel. I already have a 4 banger to scoot around town, and it uses 87 octane. 95% of the time, I opt to hop in the 4 banger because of the fuel savings so until these gas prices level out of come down, I'm just going to have to sell my Q as it is.

We will miss those Q owners [any V8] who cannot [or chose not to ] afford to maintain properly and spend $8 per gallon for gasoline.

Saving $1,600 per year [currently] is insignificant compared to the maintaince/repairs on a heavy V8.

Usually one just swaps the entire tach or speedo assembly not the printed circuit level component parts other than bulbs.

Sell it to who? What economically attuned person would buy a V8 currently, a different case if you already own a paid for version.
