tach tripping out

sometimes my tach will start jumping around randomly and then i will go back to normal. i am thinking it is a sensor or something. has anyone else had this problem.

Yes, I have had the same problem on my KA with 199k on the clock. My speedo does it as well. I figured it was the sensor, but I am not sure. If someone could clear this one up that would be awesome.

My car did that right before the alternator went kaputt... however it's a slim possibility that is causing your problem.

I'd look to the sending unit.

My tacho and speedo would randomly jump also but the tacho has appeared to of fixed itself recently. Atleast I can still tell what speed I'm going by what RPMs and gear im on.

Interesting to note that when my speedo completely dies (ie speed sits at 0 km/h) eventually my HICAS lights come on indicating it my be the speed sensor issue?

If any of you guys find a solution please post up.
