The tach on my 2004 M45 just stopped working. Any ideas? I'm thinking I should go to an Infiniti dealer to get it fixed. Wonder how much its going to cost. I'm 30 days off warranty.

Ouch ...

I have a feeling this is not going to be too inexpensive.

I always highly recommend getting the extended warranty on modern cars today ... too much expensive electronics that can go wrong.

Buy the tach and fix it yourself. ANyone with some skills can do it.

Thanks for the response. I wound up buying extended warranties for my German cars and used them alot. One of the reasons I went to Infiniti for my next car was reputation for reliablity. So far this was my first problem, so I am happy. Infiniti actually made a mistake and it still was under warranty so everything was fixed no cost to me.

My local Infiniti dealer also could have not given me better service. Timely, a loaner and extremely nice to deal with. But it still begs the question. My wife's little Ford Focus has had no problems in four years. Its making me think to give up on the higher end cars and buy basic ones and just trade them when the warranty is up.

As you know my M45 is barely worth $20K today. In four years more than half its purchase price is gone. I love the M, but maybe I need to look at cars a different way as I get older.

Thanks again.

That was my intention, but I have no time to anymore repair cars. As much as I love to do my own work.
