Tach Signal Wire

hey everyone. my tach is not working and i need to get it fixed asap. i replaced the cluster and it still doesnt work. i want to hard wire the tach to the coil..

Which wire from the coil do i use???

I tried the green one but every time i hook it up to my signal wire (yellow/red) behind the cluster the car shuts off on me..

am i using the wrong wires?

am i supose to cut the yellow/red wire or splice it....

should it get a 12 volt signal or anykind of signal if i check it with a volt meter....
