I have a '89 240sx with stock ka24e and I am having a tach problem. When I bought the car 4 months back the tack and temp gauge worked until the day I brought it back from the body shop now neither of them work. I beleive it could of got unhooked as they had to take all the wiring out to weld on the new frame section. I am just trying to figure out where the wire goes from the back of the gauges to where? I know the plug on the gauges is tight as I checked that. Is the temp sensor hooked up with the tach or are they separate, can any one help me?

dont have any info on that, just wanted to see if you have added any performance parts to your 240, and what the best gain was for you on hp. Thanks

I bought my car with alot of front end damage and I have never had a 240 before this, so I dont know where half the wires and other things hook back up to. I have a manual but that doesnt help at all. I think I found the tach cable it looks to be a purple wire. If only there were some 240's where I live.

Half that stuff was unhooked when I brought the car their, they only chopped off the old frame section fromt he strut tower to the hood latch and welded the new section piece on that I got from another 240. They probably just hooked up the ones that make the car run. That is all the bodyshop did to my car, they didnt put the fender, hood, or bumper on. Just to get my frame welded and straightened it cost 1 grand. I really dont want to take it back to the bodyshop, it took them over 2 months just to do what they did on the car. My boyfriend and I are just going to put the car together to the best of our knowledge. It would be alot easier if I knew where everything went. After I am done with my car just about everything on the front end has been replaced that is a good thing. We just got finished installing my new radiator last night and connecting a few things.

I think I know why the temp gauge don't work, on the bottom of the radiator there is a small hose connected to a metal piece with a wiring harness that looks to be the thermostat. I cant find what wire has to get hooked into it and if I can find where the tach wire connects to, I might be able to fix those two problems.

i'm gonna go look on kazaa for a repair manual

but a good thing to do is drop by canadian tire... or a us equivalent... and pick up a 240 sx repair guide, or you can try to order one ( i'm gonna look into that too)

good luck 2 u

EDIT: never mind... it seems a Haynes was never made for a nissan 240... now i know. Well i guess my suggestion goes out the window

The tachometer you can trace the wiring from the cluster to the ECU, and the next place is the transmission sensor. The coolant temp sensor is in the metal piece the upper radiator hose connects to. The one for the gauge is the one closest to the engine. Also, "luckytm", the forum is for technical questions, not inquiring on what is done to someone's car, ask that off the technical forum.

Trpower7 -Are you sure the coolant sensor isnt in the bottom radiator hose? There is a metal piece like atube that connects from the bottom radiator tube to the other curvy lower radiator hose. There is a little plug on that, which is unpluged but I can find what plugs into it.

It's the same on every KA24DE, the metal piece that connects at the head to the upper radiator hose. I'm absolutely positive, there are two right there, left goes to ECU, right goes to cabin gauge.

Yes it could be, I'm sorry about that.... My suggestion is to go to your local Nissan dealer and see if they'll pull up the schematic for you. Most of them will.
