Hey all...so i got a CA18DET swapped into my S13. SOHC cam tach. Got an S14 tach and because of the slight differences on the backside of the tach i had to take the two tachs apart and swap the plastic pieces and the gauge face so it would fit in my cluster.

So anyway, when i start the motor, the tach needle moves. But it doesn't change with acceleration. Just kinda stays around 500rpm or so.

Is the tach not compatible from S14 or did i manage to damage something when i pulled the needle off to change the gauge face?

Get an S13 tach and save yourself the headache.

There are shops out there that can change the field for a tach, but I agree with Dee. Get a DOHC S13 tach and forget it.

If you are like me and originally had HUD, even getting a DOHC S13 tach will require you to take them both apart and swap needles and faces. Currently, mine reads 500RPMs with the key on, engine off, "idles" at 1900RPMs (actually sits quite nicely at a sold 700RPMs), so its like 1200RPMs off. Only thing i can do is take it all back apart and try and reposition the needle.

I had a DOHC HUD car and just swapped sub-harnesses and clusters and it works flawless.

Yeah, I have a DOHC (92) HUD in my hatch and it works perfectly.
