I have reacently ran into this problem on my infinity j30. one of my mechanic friends was saying that it could be my instrument cluster. I was wondering if any one knows whats wrong.

Take your instrument cluster out. Clean the contacts and re-attach. If the problem does not disappear then you need a new instrument cluster.

This must be a common problem in J30's? My brother's '97 J30t started it's tack jumping a range of about 500 miles and rearing a little higher. He just took out the clucter cleaned all connectors in the back and put it back in. No change still jumping, could it be the ground for the cluster?

Yes, it was the K&N drop in air filter geting excess air filter oil on the MAF sensor honey combing. my brother cleaned it with electronic cleaner, and put in a new paper filter and no more problems!!
