Mine does the same thing; been told its either the tach is bad, or that its the electronic sending unit. Never got around to fixing it, maybe when I save up for the 5spd swap, then I will worry about it.

Thanks I found out that the previous owner tried to connect a turbo timer in a very half az manner after ripping the console apart, but im not good with wires so it will take a while to isolate the problem for me.
