How many wires are on the back of the universal tach? I bought one of those tach adapters for $80.00. When I got it and read the directions I realized I didn't need it to get my tach working. That fancy adapter does not use the signal from the ECU. Instead you cut the wire supplying 12 volts possitive to the coil packs and connect them both to the adapter. Now all the juice running to the coil packs is now running through the adaptor. Then you use another wire or two coming out of the adaptor to hook up to the tach. So, if the tach you have works the same way mine does (it's an antique) you don't need the adapter. If you are not sure if the tach will work this way, open it up and look inside. Are there two wires going into it that are looped around a little coil inside? If so, it will work.
