Has any one here built a tach driver to get their stock DOHC tach to work? Here is a link to the circuit diagram http://www.gweeds.net/carpage2...t.pdf . Im going to try and use this to power the tach in my stock s13 cluster. Has any one here been able to do something like this and did it work? Im not sure if its going to be the same as the signal in the dash harness or not. If it still doesnt work i guess i could add resitors to try and alter the signal to get it close.

I dont want to spend $85 on that id rather buy a r32 cluster (i know they dont offer the RB25 in the R32 but the R32 cluster fits nicely in an s13 and all the gauges will work), but with the question im asking all it would cost is some time looking through my box of electronics to find the right chip and resisors and diodes. Still waiting to try and get my motor so I cant test it. I was hoping someone already has tried it this way.

If you have a box of diodes and resistors and chips laying around, I'm sure you can figure that diagram out and get something working. I was originally going to go that route when I realized I didn't know WTF I was looking at. Electrical engineering class was taken half hung-over and the other half asleep. Still mustered an A though

i was having that same problem until i saw lsauto.comthey have RB calibrated tach's and speedo's (180mph) for s13's

i put swapped the s13 tach face on to a s14 tach, adjusted the rear pot, and adjusted needle position. voila 6cyl s13 tach

That circuit might work, and its easy to build and probably less than $10 in Radio Shack parts.

I can design a circuit that will work if someone can tell me what kind of signals the RB ECM and KA ECM is sending, example 0-10V ect...

Im doing an RB25DET swap soon into my S13 and hope to use my stock cluster with HUD. If I get my cluster to work I'll post my solution.

there is a much easier and cheaper way.

i took a tach unit out of a vg30 maxima. break off the clear holding frame that holds the tach unit/face/needle to the cluster in appropriate places and replace with four cylinder tach unit in s13 cluster. cheap easy and it works just fine. its a tinnnny bit off according to my safcII but otherwise serves its purpose.

I have used and build 3 from that same diagram; it works fine if you would like to take the time to build it. I have one running my auto meter tach. Never tried it on the stock cluster thou. Radio shack had all the parts except for the 68k, so I just bought a 100k pot and adj. it to 68 but it dose work, i compared it to my safc to make sure it was reading correct
