If you were doing DIY changes they'll probably accuse you of overtorqueing the plug. That's BS, but bring your torque wrench and tell them you know it's 25 lbs/ft. That should head them off at the pass.

by lucky coincidence - all oil changes thus far have been done at dealerships. and because of your headsup - I immediately backed up and didn't even touch this thing after discovering oil leak.
(and yeah... this morning rechecked torque values, found my torque wrench etc :D

anyway - tomorrow 0900 we are in for "diagnostics" :D

p.s. funny how this particular dealership wants 204usd for new pan, when parts.nissanusa.com wants just 140ish bucks :D
p.p.s. was I not paying attention enough or "dust cover" underneath engine compartment doesn't have proper openings for oil change?

Totally normal. Most places online charge cost+10%, most dealers OTC charge list or list+10%. That's the way of the world.

Nope, no service openings. Nearly as dumb as that plastic oil pan.

update: they insisted that oil plug was loose - tightened (in front of my eyes) with torque wrench. free oil change. will not install dust cover for few weeks - will see how it goes.
cleaned up plastic cover on top which was oily after last oil change. checked oil level after 15min wait - spot on.
buddy of mine suggested - loosen the screw right before next oil change - and you will get another free oil change :DDDDD

for now - thumbs up to dealership. (but I still want new oil pan on last oil change during warranty) :)

It could bite you in the azz anyway. In my experience, about 75% of those pans crack while being loosened and not tightened. That would be a Blue Light Special in the Nope-That-Ain't-Warranty Department.

actually - interesting question - how many of t33 owners would buy one for future safety?

Seems kind of weird to me that the aftermarket isn't already making one. I've been expecting Dorman, SMP, somebody to pick up on it ever since the first insert spun on one of these plastic ones. I still don't see anything out there.

checked today - oil is leaking.
Screenshot_1.png
I wonder - will they just give me new oil pan and pay labor part and I will do it later myself (when it brakes seriously - right now it kinda is wet on surface and a few drips)... because it might survive a couple of oil changes and postpone next oil pan after this.

Nope. Warranty doesn't work that way. But make sure it's the pan first, put some UV dye in the oil to make sure it isn't coming from the upper pan or someplace on top. Oil from careless oil changers also tends to seep down the back of the engine and can mimic pan or rear main leaks.

Poor pan design for sure. Purchased a digital torque wrench that beeps just to avoid over tightening. 20 ft pounds is plenty to crush a new copper seal. If you think the Rogue bottom engine cover is a royal pain, you should see the 2021 Sentra. Both cars take longer to remove and install all those push pins than changing the oil and filter. Wish you luck resolving your oil leak.

If it's warranty they can't give it to you (at least not immediately). Warranty parts need to be catalogued and kept until the repair order is closed and paid, in case Engineering calls for it back. You can ask them to hold it and notify you, but it's up to them if they want to cooperate, they have no obligation.

they might not like me :D
somehow - today guy in chain of command seemed less polite than last time when he emphasized "we gave you oil change" :) (or he just had bad day).
or he didn't like me dismissing "it might be old oil".

btw, about future: car is at ~30kmiles. they will replace oil pan. if my math is correct - this car has seen 6..7 oil changes(let's assume 7x undo/redo oil plug). after next 7 - oil pan will brake. it will be out of warranty or oil pans warranty resets to zero when replacing oil pan now? (I am assuming oil pan issue, they will "investigate" again tomorrow).

Honestly, that close to warranty expiration, I wouldn't trust them not to string you along. Put some dye in it and take the "investigation" out of their hands.

@VStar650CL - you were absolutely right. just poured uv dye in it, cleaned again oil pan with brake cleaner. dunno why but first thing they tested battery :D
now I need to drive for two weeks and THEN they will check with black light...
on other hand - they sounded very eager to give oil pan to me if they don't have to send it away :D

p.s. what do you think on Fumitomo valves for this issue? could this be nissan-fumitomo conspiracy? :DDDDD

That's because they're desperately hoping it's a leak in the lower pan and not the upper one. Upper pan on a VC engine is -- well -- they don't want to go there. Actually, they may already have some broke-azz plastic pans back there that they could give you. Most dealerships only clean out the warranty bins a couple times a year. You might want to ask the Parts Manager.

Those valves are great on anything (like your gen3 Rogue) which has a full undercover. Out in the open, not so much.

latest update:
today (after two weeks wait for UV dye to "work its magic") went for checkup - everything is dry and clean.
didn't believe what I heard - checked myself right away on parking lot... yup. nice and clean.

it makes me think that:
1) the guy who originally changed oil was sloppy @25kmiles
2) second guy was sloppy (who replaced oil and filter, cleaned and insisted that oil drain plug wasn't tightened enough) @30kmiles
3) third guy was sloppy - who checked/cleaned again and put uv dye in
4) about todays guy - I don't know :)))

not to mention that appointment was for 0900.
i gave keys at about 0855.
at 0920 somebody finally drove car into service bay
at 0930 another somebody came out, checked the car and drove it out.
with all paperwork, key returning - I was out the door at 0940...

also - there is lovely window in client waiting area which is supposed to be your view of service area...
somehow - each of my visits I have to observe at least two techs playing with their phones there, sometimes eating... right in front of my eyes.

despite getting that free oil change out of this ordeal(which WAS nice!)... feels like place you want to avoid.

For the most part, it seems like Gen Z simply isn't interested in the hands-on work that makes the real world go around. It's become ridiculously hard to hire lube techs, and even harder to hire ones with the desire and qualities to work upwards in the trade to become technicians. I'm sure plumbing, HVAC, and every other blue collar trade is in the boat beside us, but that begs the point. The point is, I'm not a bit surprised at lube techs and tech-2's f#[king with their phones and dripping oil down the back of engines.

if I have understood correctly how things work in industry - to work as mechanic you need to bring in your own tools, correct?
so - expenses, education... and then sit on their a** because mommy told them 20+yrs ago "you are so special"? :D

people in industry complain about hard to hire people... I would love to try out working there, but I don't think that I want invest x0000 moneys to have my own cart with tools :D
check mate :D

First off, as an unreimbursed job requirement, the cost of every tool you buy is deductible from Fed tax pretty much dollar-for-dollar. Second, every tool truck has weekly installment plans with generally-friendly terms. Third, every credible repair shop already has the really big stuff like scanners, spring compressors, lathes, etc. So if you want a personal $10K Snap On Solus in your box, that's your option, but you don't generally need it. Lastly, most places will fully fund your training if you show the desire and aptitude, and it's hard to put a price on that. My dealership personally laid out $15K+ on me, to get my Master Tech back after spending 22 years out of the business. Drive and aptitude is all they really want to see.

So tools aren't really the impediment you think they are. Crap attitudes and expectations of entitlement are. Right now, I can't point you to a shop that isn't stuck with at least one or two ambition-free deadheads whose whole life is spilling oil, collecting a minimal paycheck, complaining bitterly, and going home to Mommy's basement. You can't fire them when they're all you have, and I'm sure it's way worse in the blue Mommy states than it is here in ruby red Arkansas. I shudder to think what a service manager in New York or Cali must have to put up with these days.
