t3 turbine sizes .63 or .82?!?!

Hey guys, I have been researching parts for my late summer turbo build up.

Im set on a few things, one of them liquid intercooling. Another is using a t3 turbo. And lastly a custom CAI intake.

with the t3 unfortunately you cant get any A/R higher than .60 on the compressor. I am trying to figure out what would be best for my 10-12psi set up.

I have done some rough flow numbers and sized them up to the .60 t3 super-60 comp maps.. 10 psi is perfect, 12psi will barely grace the 60% efficiency line I believe at 5500 rpm... but i think some clever designing will take away any extra heat generated.

What I am having trouble with is chosing the turbine size. I can go with .60/.63 or .60/.82 . I know the .60/.48 T3's people have run from the older 300zx, run out of breath in the upper revs. I know its not compressor size alone that would effect this because of matching flow #s to points on the comp maps. Will the .82 be more beneficial power wise or will it be too unresponsive? Can someone with experience in this area enlighten me to power gains due to less back pressure vs response?!!!??!

The goal of my setup is to have fun designing it, to make good power (300rwhp), and good response. (on a KA of course :) )

Thanks!

.63 seems to be the favorite

The A/R is not the turbine size. It refers only to the size of the nozzle that feeds into the turbine(The A/R is part of the turbine housing). While it's important to consider the nozzle size the turbine wheel itself comes in several trims for a T3 turbine and it is important when talking about turbine size to look at trim. The same is true for compressor wheels. A Stage I trim T3 turbine with a .63 A/R housing is not going to have the same characteristics as a Stage V T3 Turbine with a .63 A/R turbine housing.

The Z31 T3 is a .60/.63, the turbine is a "Stage I" stock wheel...

And I like that turbo for low boost KA's (say 6-8psi), but for 10-12psi, I'd find a T3 with something like a .63 A/R and stage III wheel, to keep it breathing well up top.
