hey, i've got a 91 dohc. its got bc street and strip cams and some other minor stuff like lightweight flywheel, performance clutch etc...

anyways I plan on going turbo, already have a jgs manifold from craigslist and picked a turbo. My question is how much boost will i need to run to hit 300hp with that turbo and cams. need to know so i can order the right wastegate spring...

also i'd like to know if i can mount my external wastegate anywhere else that my turbo or manifold as my manifold does not have a flange and it'd be a pain to cut and weld. can i put it somewhere else or am i going to have to mount it on the turbo...

sorry for the sloppy post, doin it quick at school.

thanks, Jeff.

if you have a 7lbs spring, you can double the boost with a boost controller so the max you can boost is 14lbs which im pretty sure can hit 300hp with your setup, you can also shim the wastegate.

as far as mounting the external wastegate, you either weld a flange on the manifold or if you have the t3 5 bolt turbos that have a hole on the downpipe flange, you can make a hole on the dp flange and weld a wg flange on it.

theres also more variables on hittin your 300hp mark, like fuel system, tune, etc

hope that helps

yeah thanks that helps.

so can i mount the wastegate after the turbo? cause that would be the easiest option for me. I dont really want to drill a hole in my turbo and the jgs manifold is 3/8ths thick cast carbon steel, which would be a b**** to drill a hole in.

seems like a wastegate mounted after the turbo would still monitor the boost pressure corrrectly right? or would it cause over boosting?

wastegate mounted after the turbo would just make you have an open exhaust. the wastegate needs to bleed off the exhaust before the turbo, so the turbo doesnt spin as fast. so in short, the wastegate needs to be before the turbo on the manifold.

was talking about that hole on the pic

so basically make a hole on the downpipe flange match it with the same hole on the turbo about an inch (you can port it out if you want) and you can put a flange on it. dont know if it'll fit but you can route it

ahh ic. but i would imagine that would cause a boost spike if you did it like that. if you make the hole bigger, then maybe it would work if you somehow put a wastegate on it. i just don't think that hole is big enough to bleed off enough exhaust to stop it from over boosting.

Should look something like that. I have a 7lb spring in my Tial and I've run a steady 20 psi via boost controller. I like to be able to run low boost for daily driving and 20 or so for racing etc. I use a TurboXS Dual Stage boost controller.

The JGS is cheaper IIRC, both are good manifolds though.
