There would probably be more work and cost involved because of having to go topmount, but you would probably come out even with the money you could save. Are t3/t04b's oil AND water cooled? Wow I see that these turbos are pretty reasonably priced. Now I'm stuck between the Holset and a t3/t04b1 lol

they are very well priced.

I am finding reasonably priced top mount manifolds. around 120 with warranties.

If the elbow is the concern then that shouldnt be too expensive either.

yes they are water and oil cooled.

I was stuck on the Holsets recently as well.its good to see that there are creative substitutes to a gt2871r.

Get a 2871r .64 and be done

a 120 dollar top mount is just asking to break on you.

IMO: A AGP 50 trim t3/t4 would be by a nice option for a quick spooling topmount setup. I would say it's a much better choice than a 2871r .86....

yeah your right, i prefer the 2871 .64 - its supreme, but I am looking for a way to get the numbers without dropping a G on just the turbo alone.

I also prefer the quick spool on the .64 because i want it more on the low end, from light to light.

Idahotuner why did they move your build thread to the 240sx/180sx page? Now I have to click the mouse a few more times to look at it lol.

Good turbos arne't cheap

By the time you get a top mount, fab everything up, you could have just gotten the 2871r .64, made equal power, and spooled up even faster...

Yeah but you don't have top mount and so you're not as cool.

You pay for the manifold, fabing and turbo just so you can be like "hey mother ****er look at my turbo, its right here on top" duh.

Thats kinda what I think. Picture a gt3071r hanging from the stock manifold. Nobody would think twice. Sleeper... big time.

i think t he gt30 will.

yea i see that you can get one that cheep. but you will have to figure out the cost of the manifold. and in the end you could of had a brand new turbo, and a nice manifold.

but i am done. do waht you want it is your build. i got pissed when people told me stuff to lol. well not pissed jsut bugged when people thought there way was best.

[QUOTE=idahotuner]i think t he gt30 will. QUOTE]

It will fit on the stock manifold. They make an internally wastegated version that will even accept the factory dump pipe. Ive seen a T61 bottom mount setup and the guy had to shave a little off of the motor mount, but just a little. Gt28 or gt30... I just figure that if I'm going to spend over a grand anyway for a gt28 I might as well spend another $150 for the gt30. To me its all about the spool up sound lol and the mid to top end hit since I plan on drifting my car very little. Mostly qaurter mile and mustang/camaro and dsm/honda killing.

lol! you noticed how it changed from...

"but wait I know a better way!!!"to"<sigh> yeah... your right"

but its true, I dont mind sound advice. I started this thread specifically to hear what you think.

plus I dont have the fabrication ability to weld Sh*t that doesnt fit, or make custom manifolds. so the .64 works.

Is is possible to slide it in without lifting the motor out with a hoist?

I would recommend just pulling the whole manifold off. Unless you have tiny carny hands there is no way to unbolt the turbo off of the mani or unbolt the oil/water lines and reinstall everything. But supposing that you do have carny hands all you would have to do is unbolt the drivers side motor mount and then lift it with a jack. It would give you all the room you would really nead.

Yeah but if they keep asking you to show them your engine before the race and you wont do it your pretty much screwed because they will know something is up.

ok the easiest way to change the turbo is to pull the whole manifold off. it might takea little logner to pull the manifold off but it makes up for it when changing the turbo.

it is only 8 bolts on the manifold.and 3 to disconnect the o2 housing from the exhaust. and it will come right out.

trying to change it with it on. you will be dropping bolt getting under the car to get them, trying to see, you wont have good angles to work from over all a PITMFA

I was for taking the whole manifold off...but it can still be done the other way but its like trying to thread a needle with a piece of 10 gauge wire.

Its always a good idea to replace as many gaskets as you can when you do something like that. Because if one leaks then you have to do it all over again.
