I have a datsun 510 wagon with a ka24de and I'm currently getting turbo parts together for it. I have a garrett t3 off of a volvo, but I currently picked up a garrett t3/t4. The exhaust side is a t3 with .48ar and the compressor side is the t4 with .60ar and a 57trim wheel. The turbo has normal shaft play and is still in good condition.

This is your basic turbo build pushing about 8lbs of boost.Should I run the volvo t3 and sell the t3/t4 and use that to fund the rest of my project? And how much could I get for it?Or would it be worth it to use the t3/t4 on a low boost set up?

Either one would be fine. The t3/t4 is a higher flowing turbo that would make more HP per PSI but its up to you. The volvo t3 would spool a bit quicker.

That t3/t4 is worth about 300-400 bucks if its in ok condition.

Depending on power, if you plan on making over 300whp in the future, stick with the T3/T4, you'll have plenty room to grow

I would use the T3/T4. With a .48 exhaust side you should be getting quick boost.

I believe the Volvo T3 has the same hotside (but maybe has a stg 1 wheel). For some reason I suspect the comp side is 0.42A/R but cant recall the trim. I'm sure its quite small though (less than 60trim).

I'd go with the T3/T4. Should get you near 250whp at 8psi.

I like the t3/t4 better because it makes more power at the same boost plus it wont choke up top like the volvo t3 will.

480sx: how much hp could the volvo t3 run before running out of breath ? I have one of those turbos too, and I'm not sure if I should use it as a back up turbo or sell it .

I have no idea what turbo came off that car. If its a super 60, its good till about 300 hp and 20 psi of boost. You can take off the compressor housing, measure the inducer and exducer, do some math and figure out what trim it is. Equation is on Garretts turbo tech section of their webpage.

t3/t4 with a .48 hotside would be ideal for anything under 350 hp. You can do 400 with it, but your drive pressures are getting crazy at that point.

your t3/t4 with a .48 exhaust housing and a .60 a/r will spool pretty good. I have a t3/t4 with a .63 exhaust housing and a .50 a/r on a 10 psi setup and it actually spools pretty quick considering the t4 compressor side and the large HP window for these turbochargers.

stick with the t3/t4, it has a lot more potential for future setups and more HP down the road. It will still work great at 8 psi.
