Hey guys well im getting ready to upgrade to an aftermarket turbo on RB20DET in my S13, and im having some thoughts on how to do it...

My delay is the turbo manifold... I already have a 38mm wastegate and dont know if i should:1. Weld the 38mm wastegate to the top of the manifold at the collector like this ---> (sorry if this is someone else's pic, i hope you dont care)

2. Buy a turbo with a 5 bolt ford turbo flange and weld up a 38mm wastegate flange to it... (sorry no pic of this)

3. Buy a SSAuto mani (the only problem with this is i cant find any for sale with the T3 flange they all have a T4 flange)--->

4. Make a T3 extension off the manifold and put a pipe leading off of it that goes to the 38mm wastegate flange. This is the option that i would like to go with the most, what do you guys all think? Anyone running an extension like this? pros and cons?

Thanks in advance guys..

I hope this helps, basically I tried the same thing you are talking about in option 4. I ran into a lot of prolems in the fitment of the manifold both with the spacer and fitting it in the car.

Although I have an RB25 in an S14, running a T3/TO4E the spacer put the turbo out toooo far and it hit the frame, as you can see:

Also note the wastegate...... I had to shave off a considerable ammount of the housing for it to fit, I know you plan to do it differently, but, if I could offer any advice, dont go this route. I ended up buying one of the ssac top mount manifolds and it hasn't failed me yet!

Are you running a setup like this? Is there any boost creep on a setup like this? Or any other cons?

Wow thanks for all the pics! Where did you get that piping that you used as a spacer?

Also, did you do any reinforcements to the SSAUTO? How long have you been running it(daily driver? weekend racer? both?)

i have a t3 to ts extension with a external wastegate flange on it ill sell you for 25 bucks. its brand new and never been used. it will bolt striaght to your stock manifold and place your turbo aprox 2 inches out from the manifold and the external wastegate flange is in between for easy access.

Got any pics? Did you mean t3 to t3 extension? or what is an ts extension? which way does the wastegate flange face?(down, towards the booster, up, or towards the radiator?)

No, I have a proper wastegate manifold. I have just seen it done before though and of the choices it offers you the best wastegate positioning and clearance with a minimum of parts to purchase. Basically you need the appropriate weldflange for your gate and a good welder.
