Thats a pretty good price for a t28.

Just ask to check it out first. Take off both housings and inspect fins for damage. Check for in/out play first, then side to side play. A little side to side play is alright, just make sure there has been no contact on the housings. It will be pretty evident if there was.

Thats about all you can do without really taking the wheels off. Another good move is to get a small magnet and see if you can pick metal out of the oil drain/feed. If you pull really any metal out at all you can bet the thrust bearing is not in good shape.

Other than that there is no way to really tell if a turbo is in good shape without disassembling it and checking everything out. Its a good idea when buying a used turbo to seek out the closest turbo shop and let them check it out.

tha 42ar is bigger than the 60ar, cuz the t25 is 80ar...not sure how much more power the 42ar makes, t25 makes 250 @15psi, T28 makes that at like 10psi and 300hp max at 16-18psi, could be good find if turbo is ok, if not just rebuild it for couple hundred and be good to go.

Err, you have some things mixed up. AR is simply a measurement of how big the exhaust housing is, or the compressor housing. The smaller the .xy AR number the smaller the housing. The t25 has a t25 turbine wheel, which is really small. The t28 has a bigger wheel which allows it to boost to higher levels.

on the compressor side the AR number get smaller for bigger size, why else would the small t25 have a .80 and the t28 use .60 and other option is .40 i believe, but both use the T25 exhaust housing. and bigger wheel doesnt allow higher levels of boost (wastegate), just how fast it gets there. wow u need to learn to word things right and get info right.
