I was debating on getting one off eBay but for $170 it didn't really tickle my fancy. I was wondering if there are any benefits to this (performance wise) or is it just for looks?

Thanks

the stock cast elbow IS very restrictive. If you ever look inside of it, it gets quite narrow because its formed funny to make easy access to all the nuts and bolts that hold it in place.

An aftermarket one, like the one pictured, not only creates a smoother flow, but also separates the wastegate flow from the turbine flow, supposedly creating even more gains in HP. I would imagine one of these could gain in increase in HP and throttle response but I'm running a stock cast one, so I can't really say one way or another.

actually the aftermarket one your picturing isnt very good, its a 2.5 ifnot smaller opeing then dumps the wastegate perpendicular to the exhayst flow, its better then stock but still crap. go with the ones that are 3" OD and dont recir the wastegate they are probably better then that one.

the separated version i bought was 3" with the waste gate tube goin farther down towards the DP flange, still crappy but it was like 70$ , and before i had acess to an entire fab shop and all the flanges.

Yeah, you can get the Megan Racing ones off ebay for like $60 shipped and supposedly they are pretty nice.

so what you would recommend is getting something like this that has a 3" diameter

and refabricating the intersecting points so that they flow together and don't "run into" eacher?

Actually, it's supposed to be like that. I can't remember the exact reasoning why off the top of my head though.

i have the megan 3" one and its pretty nice. Just make sure you use some good lock washers. that way you dont have to worry about tightening the bolts later on.

Tomei tested their unit.

Test was on an SR which uses basically the same thing.
