What are my options for a turbo that will bolt up to the flange on the stock S13 CA18DET exhaust manifold? I am looking for ones that require NO CUSTOM WORK at all to get them to bolt up. I need to be able to have it flip mounted with the exhaust housing on the timing side of the engine. Intake piping will have to be custom regardless.

I have had people tell me to look at DSM turbos. Am I correct in assuming that stands for Diamond Star Motors? so i should look for Mitsu/Eagle turbos? Also, what Garrett turbos use this same flange?

If possible, spool up range would be appreciated as well. What would you guys suggest along the lines of bang for buck? I am not looking for anything that will handle crazy boost, as I will be keeping it around the stock 7psi for a while, but don't plan to surpass 15psi anytime soon.

yeah, flip mounted. turned around and mounted the other way around, so the compressor housing is toward the flywheel side of the engine and the exhaust housing is toward the timing side. makes piping a whole hell of a lot easier for FWD... kinda forgot to mention that.

Pretty much anything of the t25/28 variety. I think the greddy t617z or whatever they are have t25 flanges, and of course the GT series turbos from garrett. DSM turbos do not share the same t25 flange. Good to see another person from Huntsville. Ive been terrorizing that town with a CA18DET for over five years now. Where exactly in HSV are you from?

Ok, so that rules out those turbos... I'm sure finding another turbo (SR20 T28 maybe) shouldnt be too hard or expensive... i really need to get this engine finished and get the EXA running... mmm Turbo and T-Tops

I'm just outside the HSV limits toward new market. A couple miles from Buckhorn High actually.

Ah, I'm in southeast HSV by Grissom high. If you need any help over the break I could probably give you hand. At the least I can bring the car by so you can check it out.

Yeah, dsm turbo's have a different flange.......but there is a sandwich adapter flange on the market that allows you to bolt a dsm flange to a garret t2 flangehttp://www.bmcrace.com/product...d=157

cool...

i found a guy local that has a 14b with no shaft play for pretty cheap... if i get that adapter, what type of performance would the 14b give me on the CA18? would there be any massive turbo lag, or would it spool up pretty quick?

I'm not all that familiar with dsm turbos......but I think a 14b is pretty much the same as a t25. Maybe someone will chime in. I think this is the stock turbo on eclipses. A big 16g is a step-up for those guys, and then a 20g is another step-up

Isnt that the stock turbo from the 02-03 wrx? If so I would think it could do 280-300hp, but no more. We got pretty good performance out of my buddy's subie on 18psi, but any more and it would have been pretty useless.

What i can tell you is that a 14B is a great match for this engine, and in doing that it opens up many other doors for you, like the Big 16G and Evo3 Big 16G...do the mitsu turbo, not to mention all the custom hybrid stuff on the market, and pass up on the Nissan/garret stuff you wont be sorry, i am elated with even my 14B over the Srt25 and very much so over the stock itty bitty guy.

As I posted years ago, DSM turbos are clocked perfectly for bottom mount on a ca18, and are perfectly matched to our motor for everything.... from responsive quick spooling 14b/g to 16/18g midrange to 'hi-stung' 20g beasts. Proven performers

do all these turbos use a t2 flange?

or do they require some diffrent kind of flange?

from what i have gathered, they require an adapter flange to... but if that's all, im all for it!
