What are the differences between the two other than a slight size difference.

Well, the size is the difference. As far as the difference between each family, it's a difference of 0.25 inches on the major diameter of the compressor wheel. The Minor diameter varies depending on which trim you choose. For the most part though, the T04E is more efficient overall, but at higher boost and flow rates. Size is really the major difference between any turbo.
