Not really LOL. I was wondering if you know if T Mobile has launched their UTMS 3G network anywhere in the US and if any of their current smartphones (I'm really liking the Wing) will be able to use it? Thanks in advance.

Hmmm ... not sure. I have a 10am conference call with T-Mobile today - I'll ask the question (if I remember)!

Weak. I heard T-Mobile is secretly rolling it out and it is already in major cities like New York.

The response I have received from my T-Mobile contact:

Quote »T-Mobile will be launching 37 cities with UMTS/HSDPA in mid 2008.[/quote]So, that is when it is gonna happen.

yup, it will happen like most everything else we put out. we'll put it up as soon as possiable in several test markets, have a ton of problems, fix them them THEN start intergrating the new network everywhere else.

Sprint should take a cue from T-Mobile. I'm perfectly willing to wait for a finished product. Sprint takes the "We'll be the first on the market" approach but is first with a glitchy technology and people don't like "glitches."

Yeah so instead of getting the Wing I opted for the Cingular 8525. It has a 2x as fast processor than the Wing, runs WM6, is direct email push compatible (big win for me), does everything the Wing does but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, queue the dramatic music.............................. It has UTMS/HSDPA. I'll unlock it and just wait for T Mobile to finally upgrade their networks and buy a 3G sim and pop it in. God I love GSM networks and their unlockable phones, although apparently Sprint is to begin unlocking their phones in '08.

Yup! As part of a lawsuit settlement.

I suspect that other carriers will be forced to do the same very soon!

From what I can tell, the only real difference between the Cingular 8525 and the Tmobile Wing is that the 8525 is compatible with the upcoming 3G networks and that the Wing has built-in GPS.

The processor speed difference is a misnomer as the Wing is a dual processor phone where tasks are divided between cores. Because of this, network processing does not compete for bandwidth with the phone interface/video processing as it will with the single core 8525.

Anyway, surely HTC will release a 3G Tmobile phone right before the networks are up and running.

As a side note, Tmobile is super cool about you not using 'their' phones. When my little bro had problems with the sony cyber shot phone he bought the customer service guy immediately escalated his call to someone who had experience with that phone. Also, when my older bro called in a few times last month to get his new Dash set up they all commented on how cool it was that he was calling from an iPhone, asked him how he liked it and if he had any trouble getting it to work with Tmobile.

I got an ATT line when i bought my iPhone and have hated every call to their customer service line. its HORRIBLE!

I'm loving this phone. People hate on EDGE but it's plenty fast where I live, fast enough to stream movies and music from my home PC.
