Got a 4 channel amp the other night so I hooked it up to my 6x9's to see if it worked. And it did. I had a kx100.2 in there and this was a 240watt amp so hey more power so I left it in there. Mounted it to my box with my 12's and ha dno problems except when my box slide and pushed on the rca cables it would distort my speakers like hell but only my 6x9's. So i wedged a school book and problem fixed. But sometimes book would move.Next day installe dosme fog lights.Next day(this mornining) car started went and got a fuel filter came back home installed it and car wouldn't start. Afte rinvestigation turned positive nut 2 turns loose form night before installing fog lights.Problem fixed???No now my system is cutting out like crazy. So I figure it's the new amp I got(it's old so figure it's burned up). I disconnect it an dmy subs are now messing up. And if I touch the other RCA cables my subs cut out. Now when I shut my car off the subs hit hard. Also now I get engine whine coming through my speakers. Is it jsu tmy ground is screwed? Being it had to do with rca cables ground form my deck? Can I correct all this by running new ground from my battery to my deck. Would it be safer to run my grounds from my amp straight to my battery? Thanx for your help. AIM=hotrod3131

wow i couldn't really decipher what you were trying to say... if you clarify maybe i can help you. which amp is hooked up to what?

but generally a whining noise is due to your gains being turned up too high on the amps... lower gains and see if that fixes the clipping problems.

if not, you may have hooked up this new amp with a poor ground and it's trying to ground itself through your deck!! that's real bad...

also, is the book made out of rubber? because that might be the problem.....

got 2 amps. One has been hooked to my subs for almost a year. The rca cables of my second amp whihc was powering my highs would affect my subs. The engine whining is coming through 4x6's that is hooked up to my deck. Also comes from my 2 12''s. Think I'm just going to run all new grounds. Beleive it is the ground from my deck because of the rca cbles and I never touched my subs and they are being affected.Think my ground is just f^???

I would suggest you start troubleshooting with the headunit first, using the direct-attached 4x6's (disconnect the power or remote-on for your amps to do this). After disconnecting the amps, so they don't power on, troubleshoot the whine from the headunit and get that fixed. Next, connect a single amp up and check it for static/clipping/etc. Once that is resolved, hook the other amp up and do the same.

Take it one step at a time starting at the beginning or you will have a horrible time finding the problem(s). You may want to clean your battery terminals and check your battery grounds as well.

There is a good chance if you shorted the RCA leads to any of your amps that you fired the ground traces on your PCB inside you headunit, adding grounds won't help if this is the case. Other sources of ground loop noise can be the ground point on the vehicle. You could have found a noisy spot for your choice. unequal length RCA cables to your different amps can also create a ground loop interference. Try new RCA's a better ground and borrow a deck from somebody friendly, see if the noise is still there and your system works. OR you can take it to a professional and let somebody else try it out.
