I'd like to know what everyone did (flush wise) before and after they first cranked and started their motors.... so far i've got several fluids to do some cleaning. Seafoam? ect. ect. What was used to flush your cooling system as well?

Compressed air.

Blow through all the oil & coolant ports you can get to. When I install any used motor, ESPECIALLY a $3500 one, I pull the cams & blow through EVERY port on the head. Then I yank both the intake & exhaust mani & blow through the turbo coolant & oil lines & the coolant &oil lines on the intake side as well.

Can't be too safe!

one thing i do to junkyard motors... after you install the motor, dump the big container of CLR into the cooling system. top off with water. run the engine with the radiator cap removed for 10 minutes.

let cool, drain the system [by removing the lower hose from the radiator]. with the lower hose removed, run a garden hose to the upper rad hose to flush any trash out of the rad.

then reconnect the hose, and fill the system with fresh water. run the motor for a few minutes to flush out the cleaner. dump the water, fill up with coolant/water mix.

make sure to change the oil every 500 miles for 3 or 4 changes.

it is always worthwhile to remove the oil pan and clean it out [including the strainer] with brake cleaner or gasoline before you install the motor.

I would recommend replacing all of your rubber lines if you still have the motor out. You'll get a pretty good idea on how gummed up your coolant system is when you change those lines.

I ran straight DI water in my coolant system at first and that broke loose a lot of the grime that was in the engine. My buddy works for a dealership and I had him run a solvent flush (actually ran two flushes) on the system after I'd run it a bit with the DI and broke things up a bit.

I'd also recommend running a new oil filter and oil before you start the car for the first time. I also would check the old filter and the pan for shavings before starting... for piece of mind. Then change the oil and filter about 2-300 miles.

This is what I've done with my motor...
